What is the best way to teach my children in South Asia in the U.S. about your culture / background in a fun, participating as well?
I am interested in your opinion on what the best way would be to help our Indian / South Asian children (living outside South Asia) understand and appreciate their cultural heritage in a fun and engaging. How would, how often are they made? What aspects – for example, customs, food, festivals, history, literature, religion?
As a 1st generation with parents in India, I found that "education" about the culture was not as useful as they live. My parents have tried to participate in activities based on the culture as much as that – learning to eat and to cook food Traditional Gujrati at home to make dandy RAAS during Diwali Garba and the traditional clothing and jewelry, as appropriate. They told us stories that are based in India (Ramayana culture, etc) and their own experiences growing up. My experience growing up leads me to suggest that the best way to teach your children about their culture and history is to integrate both as possible in their daily lives and do that based on experience, not lecture or lesson from. If it can be integrated as part of his life will be more fun and attractive.
